フォーマルの着物とは　：About a kimono of formal

着物には帯から小物にいたるまで「格」が存在します。
現在では、ある程度個人の自由で着物の色や文様を選択することが出来ますが、格を理解してTPOに合わせたものを選ぶようにすると、より深く楽しむことができます。格式の高い着物の種類から順を追ってご紹介しますので、ぜひ着物を着る際の参考にしてみてください。現代では格式の高さから、振袖、留袖、訪問着と使われることが多いです。

【最も格式が高い「礼装」の着物】 : Kimono of the formal dress having highest formality

優雅で気品ある礼装は、公的な儀式や冠婚葬祭のときなどに着る最も格式が高い着物の種類です。結婚式で既婚女性の親族や仲人が着る「黒留袖」や、既婚・未婚問わず着用できる「色留袖」などが該当します。この格式の高い礼装に合わせる帯は、金、銀、白のものや、多彩な色で華美な文様を織り出した「錦織」や「唐織」の帯を選ぶのがよいでしょう。

また、この留袖を着る場合は自らの家系をあらわす「紋」を必ず入れなければならないため注意をしましょう。一つ紋、三つ紋、五つ紋の3種類が存在し、数に応じて着物の格が上がります。色留袖は着用範囲を広くするため、紋の数を減らして格を下げることもありますが、黒留袖の場合は五つ紋が必須です。色留袖の紋を減らして格を下げる場合は、必ずしも帯を黒留袖と同じにする必要はありません。

【祝着の席に最適な「準礼装」の着物】 : Kimono of the associate formal dress

準礼装は、祝賀会や披露宴のような華やかなパーティーに用います。縫い目にまたがる絵羽模様が美しい「訪問着」や、上品に装いたい時に重宝する「色無地」などが該当します。この準礼装の帯は、礼装と同様に織りの袋帯を合わせるとよいでしょう。

訪問着は一般的に紋を付けませんが、留袖の次に格式高く優美さと品を兼ね備えた着物です。色無地は白生地を一色に染めた着物のことで派手さこそありませんが、その落ち着いた雰囲気は、子供の七五三や入学式など控えめに装いたいときに最適といえます。

式典の招待状に「平服」と書かれている場合は、略礼装の着物を選ぶのもよいでしょう。遠目には無地にも見える白抜き柄の「江戸小紋」や訪問着を簡略化した着物である「付け下げ」など種類も様々です。略礼装の帯には、招待された会合やパーティーに見合った文様のものを自由に選ぶことができます。
